My client, The Blake Group (East Windsor, CT) has an exciting, growth opportunity for a Controller                   (VP, Finance), reporting to the Company President and managing a staff of seven.

Founded in 1927, The Blake Group is a privately-held, family-owned, specialty distributor and manufacturers’ representative that has evolved from a small traditional pump, boiler and hot water distributor into a well-known, regional specialty distributor and manufacturers’ rep offering Peak Performance Solutions that allow sustained use of water and thermal energy resources.  As a distributor, Blake focuses on stocking and meeting the demands of both contractors and tradesmen servicing the needs of residential, commercial and institutional markets.  As a manufacturers’ rep, Blake’s Commercial/ Industrial/ Municipal teams specialize in engineered solutions for large projects requiring more customized solutions. 

Profile:  What are we looking for in a candidate?

·         Are you experienced in advising management on short-term and long-term financial objectives, policies, and actions?

·         Are you a motivating /inspiring force in driving and monitoring the results of employees – in evaluating performance and recommending and implementing personnel actions (i.e., promotions, dismissals)?
·         Do you have a successful track record in training staff on best practices and procedures in AP, Purchasing, Credit, Billing, Collection, Payroll, G/L and Budgeting?
If that describes you – then read on . . . The right candidate for this position will have eight to ten years of finance, accounting and administration experience with a Bachelor’s degree, ideally, in finance or accounting (although other business-related majors will be considered).  He/she will possess strong accounting skills; have managed multiple P&Ls; be able to lead and direct diverse teams; exhibit superior communication skills; be able to positively represent the Blake Group and communicate with others at varying staffing levels; demonstrate proficiency in using business and accounting software systems, as well as MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and basic Windows environment.  Experience in maintaining banking relationships is important              as is managing audits; exposure to insurance captives and their nuances would be very helpful.  Financial experience in real estate/property management is a plus.

Position Responsibilities:
This position directs and oversees the overall financial plans and accounting practices which include:  accounting, budget, tax, treasury and audit activities.  It also includes oversight of financial and accounting systems controls and standards – ensuring timely financial and statistical reporting for management. 
Ø  Finance  and Accounting
o   Cash to Cash Cycle, Working Capital Management
o   Balance Sheet and Income Statement Accuracy
o   Assets Management: Maintain and improve internal control guidelines (policies) and procedures for (Policy and Procedure Manuals):
§  Cash
§  Credit
§  Collections – guidelines and procedures
§  AR – Policy of Cash App. (Cash Accounts, unapplied, credits, etc.)
§  Inventory – Obsolete, Warranty 
§  Purchasing
§  AP – Discounts metrics
§  Budget administration
§  Fix Assets – Depreciation
§  General Ledger
o   Cost Controls
o   Monitor and evaluate the performance of accounting staff recommend and implement personnel actions such as promotions and dismissals.
o   Tax (sales, property, and state and federal income)
 
Ø  Audit:  Controls & Systems, Preparation, and Auditor’s Relationships
Ø  Budget Process and Controls:  Preparation and Controls and manage the Annual Budgeting process.
 
Ø  Controls / Reporting
o   Develop Standards, Metrics  to report against
o   Responsible for reporting on KPIs and their weekly and monthly trends
o   Cash to Cash Cycle controls, planning and forecasting – maintain a 13 month forecast monthly.
o   Prepare or direct preparation of timely financial statements, business activity and metric reports, financial position forecasts, annual budgets, and/or reports required by regulatory agencies.
o   Analyze the financial details of past, present and expected financial operations and results in order to identify and recommend areas of improvement and opportunities.
o   Senior Management Reports
o   Staff Training and Development – Division Support:  Provide direction, training, assistance and recommendation to managers and operating units regarding accounting, financial metrics, efficient controls, budgeting policies and procedures and utilization of financial resources
 
Ø  Banking Reporting, Controls and Relationship: Monthly and Quarterly Reporting, Treasury activities, bank  audit oversight, process improvement, and general communication
Ø  Insurance Relationships (Property Causality / WC / GL/ Health – Wellness):  Renewal Analysis, Over proactive Risk Management and Controls, Proactive with Claims Management, member/owner of Captive Insurance – Raffles Insurance Company and Well Health Insurance Company
Ø  IT (Dotted-link responsibility CEO)
o   Ensure proper setup and function of accountings modules
o   Ensure confidentiality, reliability and security of corporate data
o   Assist in developing technical priorities, standards, and procedures as it relates to current software, hardware and telecommunication.
o   Assist operating units and end users to implement current software tools to improve process efficiency and productivity as part of the companies “Digital” and “Dynamic” core initiative.
