CPA Firm Seeks Senior Accountant

My client, Muskus & Wilemski, a progressive Certified Public Accounting firm providing financial and business consulting services, is seeking a career-minded senior accountant with tax experience.  This position reports to the senior tax partner and will work with an assigned group of client accounts.
The Firm
Muskus & Wilemski has been in business since 2008.  During that time, the firm has produced strong, consistent growth (7-8% yearly), with an experienced group of professionals.  The firm currently has two partners, and a total of ten employees, averaging 12 -20 years of experience.  The two partners previously worked for Big 8 Accounting firms and have modeled their practice on those larger firms, with a strong focus on client service to a diverse client base that is regional, national and international.   Technically very strong in both accounting and taxation, the firm provides value to clients beyond compliance-oriented functions, specializing in business consulting and financial transactions, virtually all of which is conducted in-house. This focus results in the development of strong client relationships, where each client is treated with the same high-level of care and attention.
Responsibilities
·        Preparation of corporate income tax returns including: understanding of accounting vs. tax differences; Federal income tax return input and completion of multi-state returns..
·        Preparation of individual income tax returns of varying complexity, including the input of information related to pass-through entities.
·        Assistance in the preparation of compilations, reviews and audits, including general ledger review and analysis for both corporate entities and individuals, as well as required file documentation.
·        Assistance with information systems and report creation.

Position
Technical Background
Federal, state and local income tax experience, along with a Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required.  The right person will have 3+ years of accounting experience with a thorough understanding of general accounting principles/financial statements and income tax return preparation.  He/she should be skilled in performing compliance-related functions in conjunction with established tax software programs; the firm uses CCH ProSystem fx, but familiarity with other tax software systems should be sufficient.  Tax research skills are a plus and tax controversy experience would be helpful.  Computer proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word are required.
Personal Attributes
What are we seeking in a candidate?  A positive attitude and professional aptitude – which involves dedication, a willingness to learn, self-motivation, intellectual curiosity.  Intellectual flexibility is especially important, given an ever-changing financial reporting and regulatory environment.
The ideal candidate is someone who is seeking a collegial/collaborative work environment.  This is a good match for someone who is looking for a consultative culture where they can learn and develop, while adding value to the firm and its diverse client base.  There is clear opportunity for professional growth within the firm. While training is provided, he/she should be able to work with minimal supervision yet know when an issue should be escalated to management.  He/she should be comfortable working with corporate and high net worth clients.  A strong worth ethic, with a desire to achieve a high-value result for a client, will help with that process.
The right person will have excellent communication skills – verbal, written, and interpersonal – and the ability to work well as part of a team.  Equally important is the ability to multi-task, managing several projects simultaneously, while prioritizing each project appropriately.  The person who will be successful in this role will have a strong desire to interact with clients – be readily able to answer client questions and willing to conduct research, if necessary, before responding to a client.   Promptness, accuracy and efficiency in completing all assigned tasks are critical, as is the ability to identify any issues for further review.  There is limited travel.
The firm offers a competitive salary, based on demonstrated experience, and attractive benefits, as well as in-house professional training/educational opportunities.
