My client, Carando Gourmet Foods (Agawam, MA) is looking to hire a Controller.  This position is critical to the financial management of my client’s company.  The ideal candidate is a team player, highly detail-oriented, able to see the big picture, yet willing to work on the “blocking and tackling” of finance.  This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with all company and legal policies, procedures and requirements necessary to safeguard the company’s assets.  The person in this position will be accountable for overseeing accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems – ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements; maintaining internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, and actual expenditures; and delivering accurate and timely reporting of financial and production, and verifying and confirming the purchasing of fixed assets and other monthly expenditures.  The person who will be successful in this position will have a demonstrated track record of maximizing return on financial assets by having established financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems. This person manages: HR, AP, AR. HR requires insurance knowledge (property/casualty, Worker’s comp) and also Simple IRA package.  This person will manage day-to-day activities of accounts payable, cash disbursements, invoicing/billing, customer credits and collections, payroll, perpetual inventory integrity, fixed asset records, general and entity accounting, and cost accounting; and, interface with banks and lessors, casualty/liability insurance agent(s) and collection agencies.  The right candidate will have:  Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or business administration; five to seven years of experience working in a similar role in manufacturing; knowledge/exposure to Cost Accounting; experience in managing staff (HR, AP and AR), in maintaining financial staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees, and in maintaining financial staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring and appraising job results.  CPA or CMA a plus, but not mandatory.   Desired Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Great Plains, Word, Access and very strong in Excel), and third party add-on such as Crystal and FRX; superior communication skills – in writing and orally; strong interpersonal skills – able to interact effectively with all company levels; exemplary analytical (problem-solving) and organizational skills balanced with the ability to take strategic data (complex financial concepts), interpret it, and translate it into laymen’s terms for the appropriate audience; capable of calculating figures and amounts for all bookkeeping, payroll, budgets, statistical analysis and probability statements; professional demeanor; strong work ethic:  self-initiative – drives for results; able to work independently, as well as part of a team; integrity and credibility; highly discreet:  respect for confidentiality of sensitive company matters.
